Inclinometer Sensor Replacement
Knostrop Weir, Leeds

DSMC delivered a specialist maintenance project at Knostrop Weir for Leeds City Council, working alongside Land + Water (L+W), who supplied the required marine plant and access equipment. The works formed part of the ongoing upkeep of the weir structure, ensuring safe operation and reliable water level management.

Project Overview

The project centred on the replacement of a key inclinometer sensor, a critical monitoring device used to track movement and alignment within the weir’s mechanical system. Accurate readings are essential for maintaining safe operation in a constantly changing river environment.

To enable safe access to the structure, DSMC coordinated closely with L+W, who provided specialist floating plant and equipment to support the works.

Scope of Works

  • Removal of the existing inclinometer and installation of a new, fully calibrated sensor

  • Inspection, cleaning, and maintenance of the stop logs, including alignment checks and operational testing

  • Safe access planning supported by L+W’s marine plant

  • Close collaboration with Leeds City Council to minimise disruption and maintain environmental compliance

Outcome

The works were completed safely and efficiently, restoring full functionality to the monitoring system and ensuring the stop logs remain in optimal working condition. The project demonstrates DSMC’s capability in delivering precise, technically focused maintenance in challenging river environments, supported by strong collaboration with trusted partners.
