Thorpe Arch
Scour Repair
Leeds City Council
DSMC are currently contracted to Leeds City Council for the underwater maintenance of their highway bridges, culverts and other structures.
As part of this contract DSMC were tasked with planning, sourcing and installing rock filter bags to control the scour around Thorpe Arch Bridge. As this structure carried the highway used for major public transport routes and a road closure was required it was necessary to complete this operation overnight.
The filter bags were transported to site and lowered to the river bank with a vehicle mounted hydraulic crane operated by one of our partner companies, the load was then transferred to an excavator machine for positioning by our dive team and wet workers.
The project was completed and the road reopened in good time for the first bus.
